The Masaryk University Herbarium is one of the four largest herbarium collections in the Czech Republic. Among them, it stands out especially for its modern depository, systematic care and quality of the arrangement. Currently, it contains 690 thousand herbarium items of fungi, algae, mosses and vascular plants, which make up the majority of the collection. The herbarium serves not only to document the research of the Institute's staff since its foundation but also to document the biodiversity of South Moravia, the Czech Republic and the whole of Europe. In addition, plants from the Mediterranean, temperate Asia and North America are also well-represented in the collection. The oldest collections date back to the beginning of the 19th century, the newest ones are a few weeks old. Visitors will learn about the methods of plant preparation, the storage of the collection and interesting collection items. In addition, they will be able to test their knowledge of plants.
