Due to the limited availability of primary energy sources and a strong industrial orientation, the Czech Republic is vitally dependent on energy imports. In addition, the currently used resources are dominantly of a fossil nature, and their future use will be regulated and economically disadvantaged at the European level. The replacement of both own and imported fossil resources with low-emission and renewable ones, as described in the National Energy Plan, will revolutionize the Czech Republic's energy concept. With regard to energy security and the time discrepancy between the production of renewable energy and its need, it is necessary to develop technologies for long-term energy storage. Long-term energy storage (on the order of weeks or months) as well as intercontinental transport are not yet sufficiently supported by the current technological infrastructure.
